Tamerlane's grandson, Ulugh Beg, sometimes referred to as the Astronomy King, was fascinated by the heavens. In the 1420's he constructed an observatory and calculated the length of the sidereal year to an accuracy of less than one minute. In the spirit of astronomical education, we will hold occasional Ulugh Beg Astronomy Nights immediately following chess club, where we go outside the building with a dobsonian telescope and take a peek at our universe!
